Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush's tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.
Nevertheless, Obama has no plans to extend the Bush tax cuts beyond their expiration date, as Republican John McCain advocates. Instead, Obama wants to push for his promised tax cuts for the middle class, he said in a broadcast interview aired Sunday.

To quote Andrew Roth:
Wow. He's conceding that tax hikes hurt the economy. So why even consider raising taxes in the first place? It makes you wonder what his true motivations are.

Andrew---Obama is fast becoming.....John McCain---why vote for the imitation John McCain when we can vote for the real thing???

If he wasn't the real thing in 04, I don't understand how he's the real thing in 08.
Tax hikes will hurt the economy - especially as Obama's "tax on the rich" will hit small businesses hard too. John Kerry ran on a platform of "taxing the rich" - look where that got him. Americans won't tolerate tax hikes, and rightly so too. What will hurt the economy even further is Obama pressing ahead with his $1 trillion in extra spending without any extra revenue to pay for it.

Yet another flip flop from Barack Hussein Obama. Good lord, the man changes his mind more often than a mother changes an infant's diaper.

Inaccurate seed. From the article:
(AP / WASHINGTON) — Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush's tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.
Nevertheless, Obama has no plans to extend the Bush tax cuts beyond their expiration date, as Republican John McCain advocates. Instead, Obama wants to push for his promised tax cuts for the middle class, he said in a broadcast interview aired Sunday.
"Even if we're still in a recession, I'm going to go through with my tax cuts," Obama said. "That's my priority."

Correct. He won't stop the tax cuts from expiring, but he may delay the expiration.
Also, the next two paragraphs:
What about increasing taxes on the wealthy?
''I think we've got to take a look and see where the economy is. I mean, the economy is weak right now,'' Obama said on ''This Week'' on ABC. ''The news with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, I think, along with the unemployment numbers, indicates that we're fragile.''

His plan, in a healthy economy, is to tax the rich more and tax the middle class less. That's his position, without regard to whether the country happens to be in a recession or not. If we were not going to be in a recession, which we will, then his position would stand. It's only because a recession is possible that he is acknowledging that raising taxes on the rich during recession could be more harmful. He isn't denying the truth. Adjusting his position because of the circumstances he would be dealt is a responsible move. If he were to be hard-headed and stick with an agenda, as opposed to making an educated decision, it is then that you should be concerned.
