Facebook Extended User Profiles Launched in Closed-Beta

Little link at the bottom of the profile

Editing the different apps to hide

The much rumored extended user profiles has finally been launched by the Facebook team. Realizing that there are just way too many application boxes, Facebook has created a small link at the bottom of select profiles with a "Show More Profile Boxes". Unless that option is selected, most of the applications are neatly hidden away, allowing the user to hide all both the most important apps. Thank you Facebook!

The selection is much like Calvinism. Either you're in, or you aren't. You can't choose whether you want it to be enabled or not (though you could just choose to hide no apps). You can't get invited except by Facebook. But for those of us who have been, it's a boon. I got it on one of my Facebook accounts (the other is mainly just for testing) and threw half of my apps in there. It worked like a charm.

My bad, it appears that all accounts with over ten boxes have it. The reason I thought it was all profiles was because the others I tested on had under ten boxes.

Did anyone else get this? It really cleaned up my profile...

This was done at random? Or was there a sign-up sometime?

Nope, I went to my profile one day, and it was there. Weird.

After checking, I have this too. Neat. Though I already have a lot of the apps I've added not create boxes on my profile at all.

Now I feel lucky! I didn't realize it was a closed-beta; it just prompted me to put some of my apps in the extended profile when I logged in one day. I do like that it hides my least used [and least useful] apps, but I also wonder if [since I don't use them that often] I should just get rid of them.

I got it, and I must say, it really is quite elegant.

Again, facebook proves how far ahead it is of Myspace.
